Gates stepping down from leading Microsoft.

Microsoft announced today that effective in July 2008, Bill Gates will "transition out of a day-to-day role in the company to spend more time on his global health and education work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation." Chief Technical Officer Ray Ozzie will succeed Gates as chief software architect and Chief Technical Officer Craig Mundie will begin to work with Gates to transition into his new role as chief research and strategy officer. Beginning immediately, the two men will job shadow Gates for the next two years learning the ins and outs of their expanded positions.

Obviously, Gates isn't finished with Microsoft, he'll remain chairman of the company and continue to serve as an advisor.
